You are warmly welcomed to Other/ed Environmentalisms a new monthly reading group series where we read and reflect on a diverse range of literature and ideas around the practice of ecological caretaking, conservation and nature stewardship.
Each session we will centre on a chapter or short extract (rather than a full book) through lightly facilitated discussion. The sessions are open to all and active participation is greatly encouraged! Sessions will not be recorded.
The group is initiated and facilitated by Senior Specialist - Climate Change Sarah Taylor and Artist and PhD researcher Becky Lyon as an extension of their generative research on the Art-Science Collaborations project led by the Chief Scientist Directorate.
The second session will be 1.00-2.00pm Thursday 13 March 2025:
Incorporating emotional geography into climate change research: A case study in Londonderry, Vermont, USA by Kathryn Ryan published in the Emotion, Space and Society Journal
Read up until "Case study: flooding in Londonderry, Vermont" on page 9 (or feel free to read the whole paper).
As you read, consider the prompts below and bring your thoughts to the session:
1. A sentence/passage/concept / keyword that struck a chord
2. Anything that feels challenging / something that doesn't make sense / something you don’t agree with!?!
3. How this might this text relate to your work in the organisation?
